Footprints: Jewish Books through Time and Place

“The goal of this project is to build a database to track the circulation of printed Jewish books (in Hebrew, other Jewish languages, and books in Latin and non-Jewish vernaculars with Judaica contents).” Through the database, you can search, for example, for an extant copy of an imprint or a copy owned in the past whose whereabouts are unknown.

History of the Early Hebrew Printed Book

From the University of Pennsylvania comes this guide to the study of the early printed Hebrew book from its beginning around the year 1470 through the seventeenth-century. For every topic, in both the general and the Hebrew sections, you will find a bibliography arranged alphabetically by author, and the availability of the materials in the Penn libraries system, online, or from other academic libraries.

Host a Jewish Book Author

Contact Jewish book authors by name, location, or genre. Host-a-Jewish-Book-Author.com lists only authors who have agreed to participate, with authors themselves providing their contact information, book titles, lecture topics, and areas of travel.

Jewish Book Annual

Digitized collection of the Jewish Book Annual from 1942-1999 published by the Jewish Book Council. “Each volume included a review of the previous year in Jewish literature; a complete bibliography in fiction, nonfiction, and children's books; samples of Jewish book programs across the country for Jewish Book Month; and essays on important figures in the Jewish literary scene.”

Yetzirah’s Database of Jewish Poets can be explored alphabetically, by demographic information and/or the subjects addressed in their writing.

Jewish Writers

“This guide lists more than 5,000 Jewish writers representing all literary genres (e.g., poetry, fiction, theatre), as well as other selected fields (e.g., philosophy, psychology) of creative writing, worldwide, covering contributions over more than twenty centuries. Authors are arranged by their most commonly used last name (see Notes below), identifying major areas of writing, nationality, dates of birth and death, the title of a representative work, awards and distinctions, and a Web link, as available. “
