Description:Although this site by Iosif Vaisman has not been updated since 1998, it still provides a virtual environment for exploring Yiddish language and culture. The library section provides lists of books, articles, newspapers, dictionaries, statistics, catalogs, and bibliographies about Yiddish, as well as access to a book store for online purchases. The synagogue area displays images and links to synagogue listings and chasidic shtebilach. Yiddish educational resources are available from the school section. The memorial area houses genealogical information and material on pogroms and the Holocaust. The post office lists Yiddish discussion groups, radio stations, and newspapers. In the train station you can find world wide maps of the shtetl, while the art section lists galleries, events, and theatrical, musical, and movie productions. Finally, the kitchen provides family recipes. This is still an excellent and well organized starting point. THIS IS AN UPDATED URL.

Its home page describes the YIVO Library and Archives, the worlds largest collection of Yiddish books, its scholarly publications, conferences, cultural programs, lectures, exhibitions, and courses. Portions of the librarys holdings in various subject areas are available in table format. This is a treasure trove of materials related to Yiddish and is an excellent starting point for any studies in this area.
